Two regional Poison Control Centers are dedicated to preventing injury and death from poisoning by providing poison emergency assessment and treatment information, public education, and health professional education. The centers disseminate expert information to the general public as well as to professionals, participates in the collection of uniform data, and conducts research to enhance the science of toxicology.

The Poison Control Centers are available to health care professionals and the general public 24 hours a day, seven days a week via a toll free number (1-800-222-1222) for inquiries and expert consultation on emergency poison exposures.
