Measure Definition

Colon surgery is a procedure performed on the lower part of the digestive tract also known as the large intestine or colon. Surgical Site Infections (SSIs) are infections that occur after surgery at the incision site or deeper within the body where the surgery took place. Some SSIs are minor and only involve the skin or superficial tissues, while others may be deeper and more serious. All SSIs are measured as infections per 100 procedures.

The "value" for a particular measure includes the performance designation and the corresponding score. In certain cases, facilities may display the same score for the same measure, but differ in their performance designation due to a difference in the number of patients. Generally, facilities with fewer patients are less likely to be ranked as low or high performers.
